College Football Playoff selection show 2020: Date, time, how to watch final CFP rankings release
One last set of rankings to go.
There hasn’t been much change among the top College Football Playoff contenders over the course of the rankings unveilings, but that’s because none of the contenders have been truly challenged. That won’t be the case on conference championship weekend, which will be massively impactful in regard to the final CFP standings.
As of now, only five teams have a legitimate opportunity to make the College Football Playoff. Those are: No. 1 Alabama, No. 2 Notre Dame, No. 3 Clemson, No. 4 Ohio State and No. 6 Florida. No. 5 Texas A&M is also in the mix, but would need to see both Florida and Clemson booted from the top four to make the final four — or have Clemson destroy Notre Dame in the ACC championship to the point the Irish fall out anyway.
As luck would have it, each of those teams will face each other this weekend, with the exception of the Buckeyes: No. 1 Alabama plays No. 6 Florida in the SEC championship — a likely play-in game. No. 2 Notre Dame, meanwhile, will rematch against No. 3 Clemson after beating the Tigers on Nov. 7. Because of that, the Irish are in good position to make the Playoff even with a close loss to the Tigers. A Clemson loss, however, would knock the team out for just the second time of the CFP era.
It’s obvious there’s a lot to sort through before the CFP selection committee comes up with its final rankings. But, until then, Sporting News has you covered on how to tune in to the final rankings show:
